From the bookshelf

We're about a quarter way through the year and checking in on my bookshelf! Even though I haven't set a yearly book goal, I've already manage to get through 16 books so far! This is mostly due to a reread of the Throne of Glass series. I did a reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses at the end of the year so I couldn't help sliding right into TOG. 

1. Bloodmarked (The Legendborn Cycle #2) by Tracy Deonn- Kicked off the year with book two of the Legendborn cycle. This book was still a good read but not as good as the first IMO. Having the characters get out of danger on one page and then right back into on the next page got a little old. I still look forward to book 3 whenever it comes out. 
2. Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas
3. Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) ) by Sarah J. Maas
4. Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) ) by Sarah J. Maas
5. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) ) by Sarah J. Maas
6. Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5) ) by Sarah J. Maas
7. Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) ) by Sarah J. Maas
8. Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7) ) by Sarah J. Maas- If you willing jumpback into a 8 book series and read over 5008 pages- you know it's a good series. Even though I already knew all the twists and turns I still really enjoyed the reread on this. I even powered through Tower of Dawn (UGH Chaol. IYKYK). This is my favorite series in the Sarah J. Maas universe and I'm reaaaaaally hoping we get to see Aelin and crew in the Crescent City book three (but truth be told she definitely deserves to live peacefully, ever after!). 
   
9. The Bridge Kingdom (The Bridge Kingdom, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen
10. The Traitor Queen (The Bridge Kingdom, #2) by Danielle L. Jensen
11. The Inadequate Heir (The Bridge Kingdom, #3) by Danielle L. Jensen
12. The Calm Before the Storm (The Bridge Kingdom, #3.5) by Danielle L. Jensen Jumped into The Bridge Kingdom right after TOG at the recommendation of a friend and BookTok. Overall I liked this series. Pretty predictable, but a good read overall. The first two books focuses on Aren and Lara and has very little spice. Book three switches characters to Keris and Zarrah and follows the same timeline in book two. So you know the generally storyline of what's happening but are getting a different POV. I'm not sure what changed but the author definitely decided to jump into spicy content here. So much so that book 3.5 comes with a disclaimer before it! Not super thrilled with the decisions a certain character made at the end of book 3... so I am patiently waiting until book four comes out next month to hope some wrongs get righted! Also, strangely enough the audiobook comes out next month but the physical book doesn't come out until November.

15. Gleam (The Plated Prisoner, #3)  by Raven Kennedy
16. Glow (The Plated Prisoner, #4)  by Raven Kennedy I just wrapped up with book 4 of the Plated Prisoner and honestly on the fence about this one. I did choose to do audiobooks for this series because I needed a series to listen too while I mow the yard. That being said- there is nothing I dislike more than when a male voice actor tries to do a female voice... ESPECIALLY when they are trying to do a spicy scene. Cringe. I liked the generally storyline and there were a few twists that I wasn't expecting. I'm just on the fence about certain characters relationships and it may be due to the was it was acted out in the audiobook. Either way I was still interested in the series overall to read through to book 4 and will likely pick up book 5 when it comes out in December. Hopefully in a print edition... 

I've got A Day of Fallen Night lined up next but have honestly been a little intimidated to start it. It's EVEN LONGER than The Priory of the Orange Tree- 880 pages! Soooo maybe I'll hop over to booktok and find another series in the meantime.
