Surprise! We adopted again!
Am I crazy for adopting another dog during my busiest season? Maybe a little bit. But to be fair, we had been actively looking to adopt- basically ever since we got Fennec.
One of my daily-dos was checking out PetFinder.com and one day "Princess Pants" showed up! I immediately sent her post to Gray. We both were taking our lunch breaks at work and called the shelter to find out more about her. The shelter really hand no info on her besides that she was brand new to the shelter and they listed her as a "yellow collar" (take it slow, we don't know anything behaviorally about this dog and she seems shy/skittish) AND that a few people had already called to ask about her (insert panic here). Now seems a good time to mention that the shelter was 2.5 hours away and we were both at work until 5.
So did we drop everything, leave work during the busy season to drive 2.5 hours on a random Wednesday? Yes. Yes we did.
I know this sounds so **cliché** but something about her just felt right- even before we meet her. I was so excited and anxious on the drive down to the shelter- feelings I didn't have we we had gone to look at other dogs in the past year.
So we zoomed down to the Bay Area with Fennec and went to meet "Princess Pants". (Yes- that is really what the shelter named her). I went out first to meet her while Gray stayed in the car with Fen. She was a little shy but excited to be in the play yard. After a few minutes we decided to bring Fen out on the other side of then fence.
We call Fennec "Full Send Fen" because is energy is always over the top and he did not hold an ounce back when he met Princess Pants. And to our surprise- she didn't even bat and eye! She was interested in him and ran up and down the fence. At this point Gray and I switched to see if Fen would act differently with us on other sides of the fence and he didn't care.... BUT I'm pretty sure Princess Pants immediately fell in love with Gray. When he walked into the play yard she got so excited and jumped up and down for him.
Due to shelter policies we weren't able to let them off leash together but we did get to let them walk together on the leash and they did great! And that really sealed the deal! I walked right back in and filled out all the paper work. We had to leave her at the shelter because she still needed to be spayed but we got to pick her up two days later.
Unfortunately due to her being spayed on the way out the door it did make introducing them a littler harder. She was healing from a major surgery and had to be on bed rest for 10 days. So we spent those days basically living on separate sides of the house and taking them for leashed walks together.
Towards the end of 10 days they both were sooooo ready to play with each other and immediately started WrestleMania.
So now it's been just over a month with our girl! And we officially changed her name to Sugar (her daddy named her). Again, not to be too cliché but it really does feel like she was meant to be apart of our family. That's not to say there hasn't been some growing strains and pains but all three of us LOVE her.
Long story short, let me formally introduce you to Sugar! Here are just a few of the 1 million pictures I have already taken of her:
